Facial Disc
The circular front of the bird's face, typically seen in owls. This adaptation funnels sounds toward the bird's ears, increasing their sense of hearing.
Fecal Sac
A mucous membrane which contains excrement belonging to nestling birds. These can be easily disposed of by the parent birds.
Flank
The posterior area between the wings and belly of the bird.
Fledge
The act of nestling birds leaving the nest for the first time after having reached a stage of maturity.
Flock
A group of birds either of the same or of varying species.
Forage
The action of birds seeking and consuming food.
Frontal Shield
An extension of the bird's bill up the forehead.
