1st Borneo Bird Festival 2009
Located on the northern side of the island of Borneo, is the state of Sabah. It is here, where the island will celebrate its first Borneo Bird Festival, and conservationists are excited to be able to showcase the majestic world of
Borneo is home to hundreds of bird species and welcomes a host of migratory birds, including the Japanese Sparrow Hawk and Peregrine Falcon. In Sabah alone, there are approximately five hundred and sixty bird species of which four endemic bird species, extremely rare, are a special sight as they are only found on the island of Borneo. The Borneo Bird Festival will be held from the 13th to the 15th of October 2009 and bird watching enthusiasts are encouraged to attend this wonderful birding extravaganza.
To keep visitors to the festival occupied and busy at all times, organizers have put together a great program for the weekend that consists of a bird photography exhibition and bird photography competition, bird racing, an international conference and interactive workshops for those interested in joining interesting discussions and educational programs. Various birding equipment and gear will also be on sale and a wide variety of educational material. Of course, visitors can also look forward to enjoying unrivaled bird watching experiences and getting the opportunity to catch a glimpse of birds such as the Borneo Ground Cuckoo, Blue-Headed Pitta, Golden Naped Barbet, Whiteheads’ Trogon and the Whiteheads’ Broadbill. Those wanting to attend the festival, do not have to worry about getting from their accommodation to the festival, as Sabah has a very good transport network and a variety of accommodation to offer guests, including chalets, back-packers, luxury hotels and stylish lodges. The Borneo Bird Festival is a celebration of birds and conservation that should not be missed by avid bird watchers and will be a wonderful experience for those who have never explored birding before.

Mustached Parakeets
