Export And Capture Ban Passed As Law
A bill designed to ban the capture and export of wild parrots from Mexico was finally signed into law on October 14, 2008. The bill was introduced to the Mexican Senate a year ago in a report entitled: “The Illegal Parrot Trade in Mexico: A Comprehensive Assessment.” The report was presented by the Defenders of Wildlife and Teyeliz, A.C.
Import-Export Tariff Increase
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture recently released a proposal that will make the cost of importing and exporting animals and animal products a lot pricier than at present. The proposal will also apply to pet birds, which will undoubtedly affect bird breeders as well as bird owners involved in the import/export trade
